If you’re a minimalist, then the saying ‘Less is More’ is basically your everyday mantra. This simple lifestyle bases it’s values on the idea that happiness doesn’t lie in the amount of possessions you have, instead it lies in the way you live and the memories you create. By having fewer items, you create more room for enjoyment and you block out the stresses that come with clutter.

It’s not for everyone, but trying to inject a little more minimalism into your everyday can really change your outlook on the world. We’ve got the Fora-1-1 on how to get started on this new simple lifestyle.

CLOTHING

If you look in your closet right now, there are probably a TON of things you haven’t worn in months (or maybe years). It’s easy to want to hold onto pieces that maybe you’ve spent a lot of money on or remind you of a certain time in your life, but part of being a minimalist is learning when to let go. Many minimalists operate with a capsule wardrobe, meaning never own more than 30 or so pieces at a time. It is a crazy challenge to begin with, but being resourceful with your clothing is  a good first step.

While the ‘minimalist aesthetic’ of clean and crisp neutrals is a popular trend, you don’t necessarily need to embody this style to be considered minimalist. True minimalism revolves less around appearance and more around lifestyle. We’ve rounded up our favourite ~less-is-more~ fashion bloggers who inspire us to keep things simple:

EATING

Minimalists often times care about their impact on the earth’s sustainability, so their diets reflect their beliefs and clutter-free lifestyle. It’s common for minimalists to become vegetarians or vegans in the process, eating meals that are conscious of the earths environment.

An easy way to work minimalism into your diet is by using recipes that include 10 ingredients or less. This will cut down on your grocery lists and de-clutter your fridge. Instead of having packages upon packages of frozen foods or snacks, pre make your favourite meals and store them for the days to come!

The long & short: make simple meals that give you the most pleasure and take less time. Of course, if cooking is something you really enjoy doing, you shouldn’t have to compromise that. Just remember that sometimes the most basic and stripped down foods can be the most healthy and rewarding to eat!

HOME/DECOR

This is where you can really pull all elements of this post together! Sustainability, de-cluttering and minimalism can all work as one in your living space. Being mindful of your possessions is key here, keep things that make you happy but also try to feel happy without them, because after all they are just things. Look for simple streamline designs that make you feel comfortable and clean, decor is important but functionality is key.

Furniture companies like IKEA specialize in streamline design of household essentials, as well as pieces that maximize efficiency and use of space. We’ve selected a few pieces to help kick-start your minimal decor redesign:
